Flag Day

June 15 is Flag Day! This year, it marks the 227th birthday of the US Flag! It may seem like just another day to you, but it’s a great chance to learn a little about US history, and to take the time to get to know a little about flags from other countries, too! Flags are used all over the world to represent countries, clubs, even school groups. The US flag has special names: Stars and Stripes, Old Glory, and Star-Spangled Banner. The flag has 13 stripes that represent each of the 13 original colonies and fifty stars: one for each US state!

Sorry, but most people don’t get out of school and work for Flag Day. In Pennsylvania though, it is an official state holiday. But you can learn a little about the history of Flag Day, think about what flags mean, and test your flag IQ!
